IMPLEMENTING KENYA’S CONSTITUTION: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UNKNOWN

The Riara University will hold its next Law Review Action Public Lecture on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 2.30 p.m to 5.30 p.m.

Mr. Kamotho Waiganjo is a Commissioner at the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC).  This Commission oversees, facilitates and co-ordinates the implementation of our new Constitution.

After graduating from Thika High School in 1982, Mr. Waiganjo pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of Nairobi graduating in 1987.  He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree (International Trade & Investment Law) from the same university.  He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya of over twenty years standing.  He is also a Chartered Arbitrator.The Riara University will hold its next Law Review Action Public Lecture on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 2.30 p.m to 5.30 p.m.

Prior to his appointment to the CIC, Mr. Waiganjo was in private practice specializing in commercial and conveyancing law.  He also provided extensive consultancy services on the constitution making process.  He has taught at the Kenya School of Law and also served on the Council of the Law Society of Kenya.  In addition, he served in various Commercial institutions and Civil Society organizations including the Africa International University, the Consolidated Bank of Kenya and Kituo Cha Sheria, a preeminent legal aid Non-Governmental Organization in Kenya, where as Chairman of the Board he spearheaded the expansion of legal aid and empowerment services to the North Eastern region, Nyanza, Mombasa, and the informal settlements of Nairobi.

Mr. Waiganjo also served as a member of the Mathioya Constituency Development Fund and the Constituency Bursary Committee. He has also been involved in public interest litigation on behalf of the Kenya Human Rights Commission and has written extensively on governance issues.
